You Haven’t Lost It — You Just Stopped Listening

Sometimes the most important thing you can hear is something you already knew.

Not something brand‑new. Not a groundbreaking revelation. Just a reminder — a nudge — that you haven’t lost your way… you just drifted a little.

That’s what happened to me this weekend. Sitting in a conference, listening to people talk about things I’ve taught, coached, and lived for years, something in me woke back up. Not because the content was revolutionary, but because it called me back to myself. It reminded me that I know what I’m doing — I just needed to realign, refocus, and return to the basics that built me.

Returning to What You Already Know

There’s a strange comfort in realizing that the path forward isn’t always about learning something new. Sometimes it’s about remembering what you’ve forgotten.

Life has a way of pulling us off course without us even noticing. Not because we’re careless, but because we’re human. We get busy. We get tired. We get distracted. We start reacting instead of leading. We start drifting instead of deciding. And before long, the things that once felt natural start feeling distant.

But then something happens — a conversation, a podcast, a moment of clarity, a line from a speaker — and suddenly you feel that spark again. You remember who you are. You remember what you’re capable of. You remember the work you’ve already done, the wisdom you already carry, the strength you’ve already built.

It’s not that you lost it. It’s that you stopped accessing it.

The Power of a Well‑Timed Reminder

This weekend’s conference didn’t give me new tools. It gave me something better: perspective.

A few simple reminders hit me hard:

  • You haven’t forgotten how to lead — you just stopped leading yourself first.
  • You haven’t lost your passion — it’s just buried under noise.
  • You haven’t run out of ideas — you just haven’t slowed down long enough to hear them.
  • You haven’t failed — you’ve simply paused.

And that’s the thing: a pause is not a problem. A pause is an invitation. An invitation to breathe. An invitation to reset. An invitation to return to what matters. Sometimes the most spiritual, grounded, or productive thing you can do is remember what you already know and start doing it again.

Getting Back to the Basics

There’s a reason the basics matter. They’re the foundation. They’re the things that work even when everything else feels complicated. They’re the habits, rhythms, and truths that keep you steady.

When you drift, the basics are what bring you home.

For me, that looks like:

  • Re-centering my identity before I take action
  • Reconnecting with my purpose instead of chasing pressure
  • Rebuilding simple rhythms instead of overcomplicating everything
  • Re-engaging with the practices that keep me grounded
  • Recommitting to the work I’m called to do

None of that is new. But all of it is necessary.

And maybe that’s the point: growth isn’t always about discovering something fresh. Sometimes it’s about rediscovering something familiar.

You Know More Than You Think

If you’ve been feeling off track, unfocused, or unsure, let this be your reminder:

You know what you’re doing. You’ve done hard things before. You’ve navigated seasons like this. You’ve built, rebuilt, and risen more times than you give yourself credit for.

You don’t need to reinvent yourself every time life gets messy. You don’t need to start from scratch. You don’t need to wait for the perfect moment.

You just need to remember what you already know — and start again. Start small. Start simple. Start today. Because the path forward isn’t as complicated as it feels. It’s not hidden. It’s not lost. It’s not out of reach. It’s right where you left it.

The Quiet Strength of Starting Again

There’s a quiet confidence that comes when you return to the basics. It’s not loud. It’s not flashy. It’s not dramatic. But it’s steady. It’s grounded. It’s real.

And that’s the kind of strength that lasts.

This weekend reminded me of that. It reminded me that I don’t need a new identity, a new strategy, or a new direction. I just need to step back onto the path I already know — the one I’ve walked, taught, and lived.

Maybe you need that reminder too.

If you’re feeling that same tug — that sense that you haven’t lost your way, you’ve just drifted — this is your moment to realign. At Storyboard Coaching, I help you return to the clarity you already carry, reconnect with the purpose you’ve misplaced, and step back into the story you were made to live. Your next chapter isn’t waiting for permission. It’s waiting for you. Let’s begin.

What’s one basic — one simple, foundational thing — you know you need to return to this week?

Thanks for stopping by the fire,
