  • When Marriage Becomes a Place of Being Known: A February Invitation

Sex in marriage isn’t about performance. It’s about being known and wanted by the same person over and over again, even as both of you change.

That one sentence holds the heartbeat of this entire month.

Because somewhere along the way, many couples quietly absorb the lie that intimacy is measured by frequency, technique, spontaneity, or some invisible standard they’re supposed to meet. But real intimacy—the kind that nourishes a marriage—has never been about performing. It’s about presence. It’s about safety. It’s about the slow, sacred work of choosing each other again and again.

This month, we’re going to talk about marriage in a way that honors the whole person: body, mind, heart, and story. We’re going to talk about desire without shame, connection without pressure, and romance without pretense. We’re going to talk about the kind of intimacy that grows deeper with time, not thinner.

Because the truth is this: You are not the same people you were when you said “I do.” And that’s not a threat to your intimacy—it’s an invitation.

Intimacy Grows When You Stop Trying to “Get It Right”

Performance creates anxiety. Presence creates connection.

When intimacy becomes a scorecard, couples shrink. They hide. They avoid. They compare. They feel like they’re failing at something that was never meant to be graded in the first place.

But when intimacy becomes a conversation—when it becomes a shared journey instead of a test—everything softens. You start to see each other again. You start to hear each other again. You start to remember that you’re on the same team.

This month is about reclaiming that softness.

    Desire Changes—And That’s Normal

    Every marriage goes through seasons:

    • seasons of high desire
    • seasons of low desire
    • seasons of exhaustion
    • seasons of rediscovery
    • seasons where emotional closeness comes easily
    • seasons where it feels like work

None of these seasons mean something is wrong. They simply mean you’re human.

Healthy intimacy isn’t about staying the same—it’s about learning each other as you grow, shift, heal, and evolve. It’s about curiosity instead of assumption. Grace instead of pressure. Tenderness instead of fear.

Being Wanted Is More Than Being Touched

To be wanted is to be:

    • seen
    • valued
    • chosen
    • safe
    • emotionally held
    • desired for who you are, not what you do

Sex becomes richer when it flows from this kind of emotional foundation. When your spouse feels wanted—not for their performance, but for their presence—physical intimacy becomes a natural extension of emotional connection.

This month, we’re going to explore how to build that foundation.

A Month of Returning to Each Other

February is often reduced to chocolates, roses, and one big romantic gesture. But real love is built in the daily choices, the small moments, the quiet turning toward each other when life feels heavy.

So this month, we’re going deeper.

    We’ll talk about:

    • emotional intimacy
    • physical closeness
    • desire and safety
    • romance and play
    • repair and reconnection
    • the rhythms that keep a marriage tender

Not from a place of pressure, but from a place of possibility.

You Don’t Have to Navigate This Alone

If this month stirs something in you—hope, longing, questions, or the desire for deeper connection—coaching can help you take the next step with clarity and confidence.

Coaching: Your Companion for Clarity and Growth. You don’t have to do this alone. Whether you’re strengthening your marriage, rebuilding connection, or learning new rhythms of intimacy, coaching helps you focus, set goals, and walk with intention. With guidance, you’ll:

    • clarify what you want
    • strengthen communication
    • build emotional and physical closeness
    • create rhythms that last

You’re not just supported—you’re empowered. Coaching helps you build what lasts.

  • Your Calling Didn’t Change—You Just Stopped Listening

Why: Friend, somewhere between that first holy “yes” and this morning’s third cup of coffee, the noise won. Not dramatically—callings rarely die in explosions. They fade in the thousand small compromises we call “wisdom.” Success became your silencer. Those beautiful gifts that once drew you close to the Spirit now run on autopilot, producing fruit while your roots wither. You stopped listening not from rebellion but from bone-deep weariness, trading sacred conversation for strategic planning until that Voice that once undid you became just another notification to silence.

What: This isn’t burnout—it’s something deeper. You’re still showing up, serving, leading, but you’ve lost the frequency that once made your heart race. Your calling? It remains exactly what it was in that first terrifying, glorious moment when you knew you were made for something More. But layers of others’ expectations, ministry metrics, and good-but-not-God opportunities have created static. You mistake motion for mission, productivity for purpose. The gift still works—that’s the beautiful tragedy. You can still preach hope while forgetting what it feels like.

Where: It lives in the margin spaces. In your car after another “successful” Sunday. During vacations where you’ve forgotten how to sabbath. In meetings about programs that no longer quicken your spirit. It echoes in that canyon between who everyone sees and who you remember being—back when calling felt like fire in your bones, not items on your calendar.

Who: The leader everyone depends on but no one really sees. The pastor whose ministry thrives while their soul quietly starves. The servant who became a system. The dreamer who became a brand. You’re accomplished enough that no one questions your emptiness, experienced enough to manufacture inspiration, weary enough to wonder: Is this all there is?

When: The listening stopped when preservation replaced pioneering. When “sustainable” overtook “surrendered.” That first time you said yes to something reasonable that didn’t make your spirit sing. Then another. Until your life was full of sensible decisions that slowly suffocated your sacred calling.

Ready to remember what you already know is true? At Storyboard Coaching, we create space for leaders to rediscover their original voice. Because sometimes you need someone to sit with you in the quiet until you can hear again. Let’s listen together. storyboardcoaching.com

Here’s the beautiful truth: Your calling is still calling. Still there. Still yours.

  • Who Are You Becoming?

We often ask children what they want to be when they grow up. But somewhere along the way, we stop asking ourselves that same question. Not because we’ve arrived—but because we’ve settled. Life gets busy, roles get defined, and the deeper question of becoming gets buried beneath the noise.

But here’s the truth: You’re still becoming. Every choice, every conversation, every quiet moment of surrender or resistance is shaping you. The question isn’t if you’re becoming someone—it’s who.

Becoming Is Not Just About Achievement

We live in a culture obsessed with outcomes. Titles, trophies, and timelines. But becoming is more about alignment than arrival. It’s about who you are when no one’s watching. It’s about the character you cultivate in the valleys, not just the victories.

    Ask yourself:

    • Am I becoming more patient or more reactive?
    • Am I more generous or more guarded?
    • Am I more anchored in truth or swayed by trends?

These aren’t just personality traits—they’re spiritual indicators. They reveal whether your becoming is rooted in purpose or drifting in performance.

You don’t drift into integrity. You don’t stumble into peace. Becoming requires intention. It’s the daily decision to align your actions with your values, your faith, and your future self.

Scripture reminds us in Romans 12:2 to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” That’s not passive language. That’s active, ongoing, soul-deep work.

So what’s shaping you right now? Is it fear or faith? Comparison or calling? The voices around you or the voice within you?

You’re not a product to be marketed—you’re a soul to be nurtured. The world may applaud your hustle, but heaven honors your healing. Don’t confuse visibility with value. Becoming isn’t about being seen—it’s about being known, by God and by yourself.

So pause today. Not to hustle harder, but to listen deeper. Who are you becoming? And is that person someone you’d be proud to meet five years from now?

Thanks for stopping by the fire,
    Coach Dennis

  • Look Around and Be Accountable

In today’s world, it’s easy to spot the blame game. Politicians point fingers across the aisle. Athletes blame coaches, referees, or even fans. Social media influencers deflect criticism with curated narratives. And in everyday life, we often hear, “It wasn’t my fault.” But when everyone’s looking for someone else to blame, who’s left to take responsibility?

Accountability is not just a leadership trait—it’s a character trait. Scripture reminds us in Romans 14:12, “So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.” That’s not a group project. That’s personal. From Adam blaming Eve in the garden (Genesis 3) to Saul deflecting responsibility for disobedience (1 Samuel 15), the Bible is clear: dodging accountability leads to downfall.

In politics, we’ve seen leaders resign not because of failure, but because of the refusal to own it. In sports, talent without accountability breeds locker room chaos. Take Antonio Brown’s NFL exit—his athleticism was undeniable, but his unwillingness to take responsibility cost him trust and opportunity. Contrast that with someone like Jalen Hurts, who publicly owned his mistakes after the Super Bowl loss, earning respect far beyond the scoreboard.

Accountability isn’t weakness—it’s strength. It’s the courage to say, “I missed it. I’ll fix it.” It’s the humility to ask, “What can I learn?” And it’s the integrity to lead by example, not excuse.

So look around. Then look within. The world doesn’t need more finger-pointing—it needs more mirror-checking. When we take ownership, we build trust. When we accept responsibility, we grow. And when we model accountability, we lead with impact.

Thanks for stopping by the fire,
    Coach Dennis

At Storyboard Coaching, we believe transformation begins with truth. Choose the mirror over the megaphone. Own your words. Own your impact. Lead with humility. Walk in accountability. Because real change starts when we stop blaming—and start becoming.

  • The Power of Choice

Every sunrise hands us a gift wrapped in divine opportunity: the power to choose. From the smallest decisions—what words we speak, how we respond in traffic—to the major crossroads that shape our relationships, careers, and convictions, our choices ripple far beyond the moment.

Each choice we make is a seed. Some sprout immediately, producing fruit in our own lives. Others take root quietly, growing into outcomes that touch the hearts of people we’ll never meet. That’s the profound truth of free will: it’s not just about where we’re going—it’s about who we’re becoming and what legacy we’re leaving behind.

In our fast-paced, decision-heavy world, it’s easy to overlook the purity of choice. But Scripture gently reminds us of its weight and wonder. “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life…” (Deuteronomy 30:19). God extends the invitation—choose life, choose light, choose love.

Faith magnifies the power of choice. It transforms a good intention into divine obedience. It calls us to lean not on impulse but on insight. When we anchor our choices to biblical values, we trade reaction for revelation and short-term gain for eternal impact.

Whether it’s choosing to forgive instead of growing bitter, speak life instead of criticism, or pursue purpose over comfort, every moment is a chance to partner with heaven. The Spirit gently nudges us toward paths that foster peace, healing, and transformation—not just for ourselves, but for everyone connected to our journey.

Your choices today shape your testimony tomorrow. And collectively, they shape a world that either reflects the chaos of distraction or the clarity of divine design.

So ask yourself: What story am I writing with the choices I make? Because the most powerful chapter begins with the decision to align your will with His.

Thanks for stopping by the fire,

  • What Stops Us From Becoming Our Best

I used to believe that success was a straight road, paved by talent and luck. Yet every time I took a step forward, an invisible hand pushed me back into my comfort zone. I’d whisper excuses—“Not enough time,” “I’ll try next month”—while the dream I carried quietly wilted.

Fear is the first barrier: not just fear of failure, but fear of what might happen if we succeed. Stepping beyond familiar walls feels like standing on a cliff’s edge, heart pounding. We silently ask, “What if I fall?” and settle back into safety.

Comparison is the second thief. Scrolling through curated highlights of others’ triumphs, we lose faith in our own story. We forget that each of us moves at a different pace. Their victories don’t diminish our own potential; they simply remind us that growth looks unique on every person.

Finally, self-doubt whispers a steady soundtrack of “not enough.” It masks our strengths and inflates our weaknesses until we can barely recognize ourselves in the mirror. This voice thrives in isolation, so the bravest step is often reaching out—sharing your goal with someone who believes in you.

Breaking free means small acts of courage: signing up for that workshop, sharing your work on social media, or simply mapping one clear next step. Each tiny victory rewrites the inner dialogue into something kinder, more convincing.

Our best selves wait just beyond that first fearful step. We don’t need to sprint there; we just need the courage to walk forward, one shaky step at a time.

Thanks for stopping by the fire,

    Coach Dennis

  • 5 Tips to Build Mental Resilience

Building mental resilience isn’t about becoming unbreakable; it’s about learning to bend without breaking. Whether you’re navigating personal setbacks, work stress, or life transitions, these five practical strategies can help you cultivate an inner strength that carries you through tough seasons.

    1. Cultivate Self-Awareness Carve out daily moments to check in with your thoughts and emotions. Journaling, meditation, or pausing for a few deep breaths reveals patterns and triggers. Recognizing what you’re experiencing is the first step toward responding rather than reacting.
    2. Reframe Negative Thoughts When self-doubt or worry creeps in, challenge it. Ask: “Is this thought factual, or is it a story I’m telling myself?” Replace unhelpful narratives with balanced perspectives. Over time, this practice rewires your brain to spot opportunities amid obstacles.
    3. Build a Support Network Resilience isn’t a solo sport. Invest in relationships that encourage openness and accountability. Share your struggles with trusted friends, mentors, or a coach. Their encouragement can shift your outlook and remind you you’re not alone.
    4. Develop Adaptive Coping Skills Identify healthy outlets for stress—exercise, creative projects, prayer, or nature walks. Experiment to find what replenishes you. Having a toolkit of go-to strategies ensures you can pivot when challenges arise instead of falling back on avoidance.
    5. Set Small, Aligned Goals Break larger challenges into bite-sized actions that stretch you just enough. Each completed task builds confidence and momentum. Celebrate these micro-wins to reinforce progress, reminding yourself that growth happens one step at a time.

  • Who’s Around Your Table?

Who we share our most honest thoughts with shapes our lives more than we often realize. Our closest companions—those gathered around our table—can encourage us to grow or keep us stuck in the same frustrations. Evaluating who sits beside us is not about casting judgment, but about choosing relationships that uplift and empower. By reflecting on the company we keep, we can ensure our friendships reflect love, wisdom, and grace in action.

A healthy friend offers sincere praise and gentle correction, lifting our spirits when we falter. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 reminds us: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing”. When each person at the table speaks words of affirmation, the entire group thrives. Genuine encouragement is contagious; it inspires each of us to pursue our best and to share that encouragement in return.

By contrast, chronic complainers can drain our energy and cloud our outlook on life. We are warned in 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character’”. Friends who dwell in pessimism, fear, or cynicism may inadvertently lead us away from hope and action. While compassion for others’ struggles is vital, we must guard our hearts against patterns of negativity that erode our confidence and peace.

Wisdom calls us to select companions who reflect our values and challenge us to grow. Proverbs 13:20 shares with us the following: “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.” Iron-sharpening-iron friendships hone our character, giving us courage to face adversity and a model for integrity: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Such relationships deepen our faith and commitment to lifelong learning.

True fellowship goes beyond shared interests to shared inspiration. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus … purifies us from all sin.” When our friendships reflect Christ’s own love, we experience joy, peace, and renewal together. It is in this light that we find the support to persevere and the courage to dream boldly.

As we gather around our tables—whether at home, over coffee, or in virtual circles—let us choose companions who embody hope, integrity, and compassion. When we encourage one another, reject negativity, and seek wise friendship, our collective journey becomes richer and more purposeful. May your table always be surrounded by voices that echo love and light.

Are you ready to rethink your table and reclaim your voice? • The Importance of Small Actions

Small actions make a big difference in our journey toward a more fulfilling life. Often, the idea of changing our lives appears overwhelmingly daunting. However, even the tiniest shift in our daily routine—a few mindful minutes, a moment of gratitude, or a revitalizing walk—can set off a transformative ripple effect. As a life coach, I have seen countless individuals turn these subtle habits into the building blocks of lasting change.

When you commit to small, consistent actions, you’re not just altering your routine; you’re reshaping your mindset. Simple choices, such as setting aside ten minutes to reflect on your day or jotting down a single positive thought, accumulate over time into profound personal growth. It’s like small drops of water carving a path through stone; these minor actions combine to forge habits that empower you, build resilience, and foster a positive self-image.

The power behind these everyday actions lies in their accessibility. No matter where you start, every moment offers a fresh opportunity to choose progress. You don’t need to have the perfect plan or all the necessary resources to begin. By focusing on manageable steps, you create a pathway that is both sustainable and rewarding. When you achieve a small victory—be it a better mood, improved focus, or a healthier habit—you reinforce your belief in your ability to evolve. Each tiny success builds momentum, paving the way for more ambitious changes down the line.

It is essential to remember that genuine transformation rarely happens overnight. The cumulative effect of small, positive decisions can lead to significant life improvements. By acknowledging and celebrating these micro-wins, you develop trust in yourself and maintain your momentum in the pursuit of broader goals. Ultimately, the journey of self-improvement is not always about major leaps but rather about the consistency of taking one small step after another.

  • The Mountains Are Calling

There’s something truly transformational about answering nature’s call—a call I’ve recognized throughout my journey as a life coach. I’ve spent time in various forests over the years, one of my favorites is the Shawnee National Forest, sitting beside serene streams and reflective lakes, and gathering around the comforting glow of campfires. In these quiet moments, I’ve learned to slow down, breathe deeply, and immerse myself in nature’s embrace, tuning out the relentless cry of daily stress.

Recently, my wife and I embarked on an exciting journey aboard the iconic Cog Railway up Pikes Peak. As our train steadily ascended, panoramic windows unveiled breathtaking vistas of Colorado’s rugged expanse, sparking a private conversation between my soul and the vast universe. The gentle sway of the carriage, harmonizing with the crisp mountain air, revealed fresh, awe-inspiring scenes that whispered of profound possibilities. This serene ascent wasn’t about the struggle or physical exertion, but rather an invitation to embrace the journey and absorb its quiet lessons in growth and resilience.

The power of nature is unmistakable. As we departed the base at a comfortable 68°F, the summit greeted us with a dramatic shift to 22°F, fierce winds, swirling snow, and a biting -2°F wind chill. This raw contrast not only underscored nature’s majestic force but also reminded me that within every transformative moment lies an opportunity to renew ourselves and recalibrate our inner balance.

Equally captivating was our time spent among the dramatic red sandstone spires of Garden of the Gods. Wandering this ancient landscape, I found a sanctuary for reflection. The clear blue sky and the timeless formations stood silent witness to nature’s ceaseless artistry, I experienced a profound release of everyday worries. This sacred openness allowed me to reconnect with my inner strength and purpose—a reminder that sometimes, pausing to simply breathe can lead to the most significant breakthroughs.

These magnificent landscapes are more than just travel destinations; they’re living classrooms that inspire me to empower others. I believe that, much like ascending a mountain by cog railway, our personal journeys need not be about facing difficult struggles alone. Rather, with the right guidance, each passing scene offers insights into overcoming challenges and reaching new heights.

If you’re feeling the pull toward your own transformation and seeking a trusted companion to help you navigate life’s peaks and valleys, I invite you to take the next step—let’s journey together. Sign up for a coaching session today and start your ascent toward a brighter, more resilient future.
